About Me

AJ stands for Alana Joe.  As a first generation Chinese born New Zealander, AJ has been blessed with growing up with two cultures.  Her family started a Chinese restaurant business in Christchurch where her hard working ethics developed from the age of six.  The youngest of five children, AJ is the most gregarious of all!

AJ graduated in 1991 with a BCom in Finance and worked in the Corporate sector for almost 20 years.  To fight off work stress AJ took on the challenges of multisport.  It wasn’t until she sustained a serious injury leading to an arthritic ankle that she realised she had an underlying mental health issue. Having sustained burnout and not being able to exercise, AJ suffered a breakdown and was diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder, AJ made a full recovery and in 2011 she reinvented herself to become a Personal Trainer.  AJ manages her mental health by understanding her triggers and exercising tools such as cognitive behaviour therapy and mindfulness.  Her lived experience is a great insight into how others may be struggling.  AJ has that X-factor to coach people through the toughest of times.

In 2018, AJ graduated with a Health Science degree majoring in Sports and Exercise Science to become an Exercise Physiologist.  With her ankle injury and life challenges, AJ developed a passion for injury rehabilitation, sports specific conditioning and life coaching. Her commitment to getting results is relentless and her positivity is ridiculously infectious!

Outside of work, AJ is an avid mountain biker and tramper with a background in adventure racing.  She loves the water and is often on the harbour in a waka or a yacht. She lives an active life with her partner and delights in preparing tasty and healthy meals to entertain family and friends.
